On August 14th ,1832 Auguste Agassiz, a 23-year old merchant, settled in the Jura village Sanit Imier as an active member and owner of the watch company "Comptoir Raiguel Jeune".
The company ran well and soon he managed to make a carreer Comptoir Agassiz Cie and in 1847 he payed off the other business members to become the sole owner.
His vanishing health made Auguste Agassiz to look for an appropriate successor who became his 20-year old nephew Ernest Francillon in 1852.
1866 E.Francillon bought the real estate >Les Longines< where he built his first plant.
Most of his machines were running on water power and were developped by himself.
On May 27th, 1889 the Swiss National Department for New Developments in Bern awarded under No.
2684 the official patent on the the brand
>LONGINES< in conjunction with the already used logo.

1879 Longines had his first chronographs developped, 1912 the chronograph with stopping mechanism came into the market, 1920 the cushion-shaped silver wrist watch,
1926 the Swiss pilot Walter Mittelholzer wore a Longines at his wrist,
1932 needed by many pilots, the navigation instrument for overseas flights.
1940 a wrist watch chronometre was built with 12 hour and 60 minute register, etc.
Today Longines is part of the Swiss SMH concern.
