Jaeger - LeCoultre
The first official mentioning of the company was in 1559. When the name Jacques LeCoultre was noted down amongst the 1st settlers in the „Vallée de Joux“ valley.
At the very spot, where the mentioned familiy built their home, the manufactory of Jaeger – LeCoultre was errected half a century later.
1803
The „dynasty“ came into being in 1803 with the birth of Antoine LeCoultre in Le Sentier in the „Vallée de Joux“ valley – the reknown valley of fine watchmaking in Switzerland.
1830
A treaty of managing partnership was signed with his father
1833
He and his brother Ulysses founded a company manufacturing fine gear wheels.
1844
His so-called „millionometre“ made possible that mechanical parts could be determined in the region of a thousandth of a millimetre.
1847
The crown winding mechanism was invented. From now onwards the fingers of a watch could be adjusted simultaneously with its winding.
1860
LeCoultre employs more than 100 people.
At the 1st world exhibition in London the company was awarded with its very 1st gold medal for its pocket chronographs.
1890
By now more than 125 clockworks are in the production and delivery range of the company.
1895
The first pocket watch „Grande Complication“ is designed with an eternal calender, a chronograph and the minute repition caliber 19/20 RMCSQ.
1903
During this year the flatest pocketwatch clockwork of the world was produced. (mechanical 1,38mm, chronograph 2,8mm and repetier mechanism 3,2mm).
1928
A further milestone in the company´s history was the invention of the „ATOMS“. A table watch mounted under a glass bell whose entire energy of the winding mechanism is coming from variations of temperature.
1930
The first watch „Duoplan in brooch form“ with the calibre 403 was designed.
1931
The second great watch was designed „The Reverso“.
Its design was the result of a challenge coming from the English polo players. In order to safeguard the watch from hits during the game, a reversable watch housing was developped by engineer Alfred Chauvot for the Jaeger- LeCoultre company.
1935
The lady´s „Reservo“ was designed with the calibre 404.
1946
„Reverso“ calibre 438, for the gentleman made from stainless steel.
As well designed during this year: The calibre JLC 170, where only 26 items were produced.
Tourbillon is seen amongst the most precise clockworks of our epoch.
1948
With the death of Jacques-David LeCoultre the fine watchmaking society lost its greatest creator.
1950
The „Futurmatic“, watches became the first watches running on a complete automated mechanism without winding crown – calibre 803. Furthermore, the shock-proof and anti-magnetic chronometres „Geophysics“ and „Geomatic“ – calibre 881 were launched in the market.
1956
The first automated alarm clock in the world – in order to remind businessmen of appointments.
End of the 60s the JLC company sold watches in more than 80 countries.
At this time the introduction of quarz watches had a negative economical impact on business figures and has led the company into an economic crisis, which reached its peak in 1985.

1964
Mr G.Ketterer leaves the Jaeger – LeCoultre company to take over the management of the Vacheron Constantin company.
1972
JLC launched the „Master – Quarz“ – calibre 601, a good path in the economic crisis!
1979
Jaeger – LeCoultre and Le Coultre & Cie melted into the „Jaeger-LeCoultre“ company.
1982
World record!!!
Uhr (hier fehlt bestimmt etwas ...,oder?)– mechanical high-frequenzy clockwork in its smallest dimension!
1983
The automated winding with calibre 889 is presented.
1987
Here both technologys were combined into a chronographen with „Mecquarz“ – calibre.
1988
The manufactury employs more than 900 members of staff. The turnover decuples and the value of shares at the stock exchange increases a hundredfold.
1989 + 1990
The watches „Grand Re´veil“ – calibre 919 with an eternal calender, and, „Geographique“ are introduced – was declared as time zone watch –
1997
„Reverso Duetto“ equipped with two faces and running on one clockwork.
2000
The manufactories IWC, Lange u. Söhne, as well as, JLC were bought by Richemont, and thus, were declared to be the largest producer group of high quality watches.
2004
The „Gyrotourbillon I“ was established – the first large wrist watch complication of the company produced in limited edition.
2006
At the 75th anniversary of the „Reverso“, a further large complication was presented.
